The Pandemic Wall — And The Secret Garden On the Other Side!
“So long as I know what’s expected of me, I can manage, said Mary” (The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett).
Have you heard of the pandemic wall? The term has been coined by psychologists to refer to the “cognitive overload” being experienced as a result of the continued effects of the pandemic, particularly in children. In a few words, the bodies, brains and minds of children are fed up, and some kids are simply… shutting down. But if you look beyond the wall, just over the edge, on the other side of uncertainty, chaos, and disruption, there is something unexpected there. There is…a secret garden, and in it lies the seeds of hope.
The classic children’s book “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a tale about a young girl and boy, both who have experienced grief, loss, isolation and great uncertainty. The two children find each other and learn they are related. Together, they share a journey of hope, courage, growth, and love as they venture into a secret garden that has been kept hidden for years. Once brave enough to look on the other side of the monstrous wall that has shut them out, they discover seeds of hope that they nurture in to a lush, rich magnificent garden.
